Bandinfo: Elegant Machinery
“Elegant Machinery confirms their position as Sweden’s leading Synth Pop act with an album that deliberately glances back in time in order to conquer the future and that is packed with driving melodies and strong vocals - this years prize in the category ‘synth’ goes to Elegant Machinery.”
With these words, Sweden’s undisputedly most popular electronic band was awarded the prize for the best electronic album of 2008 at the independent Swedish Manifest Gala on the 6th of February, 2009. Said album, “A Soft Exchange,” was released in November 2008 and has received praise from fans and press all over the world, with the two singles “Feel the Silence” and “Move” running on heavy rotation on Swedish national radio. It is no secret that Elegant Machinery’s roots are to be found in the electronic music scene of the early Eighties. When the band was formed back in 1988, the main influences were Eighties Synth bands. With several hit singles (“Process” managed to even hit position five in the official Spanish charts back in 1992) and three successful full length albums, Elegant Machinery grew to immense popularity during the Nineties and established an extensive fan base all over the world. Furthermore, Elegant Machinery have always been a highly impressive live act which not only resulted in an extensive array of club and festival shows around but also ultimately won them the award of “best live act of 1997” on SAMA (Swedish Alternative Music Awards.) After a ten year hiatus, Elegant Machinery are now back with their best and most potent album, ever. Today, the group is not only influenced by the electronic music scene of the early Eighties, but also by modern Indie- and Electro- acts. Aiming to combine the electronic scene of the past with the music of today, Elegant Machinery is bridging the gap between the future and the past. |
